How does coaching work? If, like me, you find coaching a bit of a minefield to navigate, check out some frequently asked questions.

Choosing the right coach. First up, coaching is an investment, so you need to make sure that you are happy you’ve found the right coach. Do your research and due diligence. Look behind the platitudes and the freebies. A good coach will be happy to have a one-to-one chat with you, to see if you can work together. It really does work both ways. The chemistry has to be right.

What do I have to do? Once you’ve had the chemistry chat and find someone you like. The next thing is to take time to read the and understand the terms of your professional agreement. I can’t stress enough how important, it is to feel confident and comfortable. It’s all about integrity really, managing expectation (goals do change) committing to turning up and agreeing to payment terms. With me, a typical session lasts 1 hour and can be conducted on the phone, online or in person, whatever we agree works best. During the session it may be helpful to take notes, but the aim is to stay present. I do not hold records of confidential information.

So is coaching a form of therapy? No. I am 100% not going to be delving into your past or getting out the prescription pad. Coaching works in the here and now. Yes, I might invite you to look back to see what might be creating any blockage and I encourage you to talk freely, without fear of judgement. Ultimately, I want you to enjoy the benefits of coaching - my style is very pragmatic and goal orientated.

So Jude what will you actually do?

  1. Be unconditionally committed to your success.

  2. Continually motivating and inspiring.

  3. Invested in finding the most creative ways to help.

  4. A virtual hand to hold (& when appropriate -a gentle nudge).

  5. Only ever an email away between sessions. No charge.

How many sessions will I need? It totally depends on the nature of your goal. I run sessions that last anything from two hours to six weeks. I can make a recommendation in our Chemistry session. Coaching is not about creating long term dependancy. Keep your goals ambitious, but realistic and attainable.

How often will I need a session? Weekly is a good way to start, particularly as I may invite you to commit to some homework. Our sessions can become less frequent the closer you get to your goal. Equally, if you have the time, we can dial up the intensity.
